It’s been 30 years since Iowa-based TV news anchor Jodi Huisentruit mysteriously disappeared, and was believed to be violently abducted. ABC News Studios is revisiting that unsolved mystery with the Hulu docuseries “Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit,” part of a suite of three new true crime programs it has scheduled for next month. Also on tap: “Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari,” which premieres July 21, and “Mr. & Mrs. Murder,” starting July 30.
Huisentruit disappeared on June 27, 1995, and since then her news desk at Iowa’s KIMT-TV remains untouched. The three-part “Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit” series will look at how a 2022 “20/20” episode sparked a tip from one of Huisentruit’s close friends, reenergizing the case. In the wake of Mason City, Ia., police revealing a new clue, the docuseries looks at the case’s law enforcement team as they follow new leads, conduct new interviews and uncover two new persons of interest.
The series promises “never-before-seen material and new, groundbreaking information.” Committee Films and ABC News Studios produce “Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit” for Hulu. Maria Awes and Andy Awes are executive producers for Committee Films; Eamon McNiff is executive producer, and David Sloan serves as senior executive producer for ABC News Studios.
As for “Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari,” the three-part docuseries looks at the mysterious death of Bianca Rudolph on an African hunting trip. Accused is wealthy Pittsburgh-area dentist Larry Rudolph, who had been in a long-running affair with his dental hygienist, Lori Milliron. After Bianca Rudolph’s death was initially ruled an accident, investigators found more affairs and fraud in Larry Rudolph’s past — and he and Milliron were eventually convicted.
The docuseries includes new interviews with Larry Rudolph and Lori Milliron from federal prison, as well as chats with Larry Rudolph’s former business partner, Milliron’s daughter, the Rudolphs’ insurance broker, FBI agents close to the case, the former U.S. ambassador to Zambia and more. “Members of Safari Club International and several of Larry’s former dental office employees also speak out, painting a disturbing picture of the man at the center of this shocking case.”“Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari” is produced by XTR in association with Rolling Stone Films and ABC News Studios for Hulu. The series is directed and executive produced by Dani Sloane; Erin Lee Carr is executive producer and Kaley Roberts is producer. Also, Matthew Cherchio, Kathleen Flood, Justin Lacob, and Bryn Mooser are executive producers for XTR. Jason Fine, Gus Wenner, and Alexandra Dale are executive producers for Rolling Stone Films. Matt Sullivan and Claire Weinraub are also executive producers, and Sloan is senior executive producer for ABC News Studios.
Then there’s the four-part “Mr. & Mrs. Murder,” which looks at the death of Mike Williams in Tallahassee, Fla. His friend Kathy Winchester reveals for the first time how she uncovered the truth about Williams’s disappearance, “including going undercover in a tense sting operation to secretly record her ex-husband, Brian.”
The story starts with “two close-knit couples in Tallahassee, Florida — Kathy and Brian Winchester, and their childhood friends Mike and Denise Williams. Devout Baptists who shared a love for the outdoors, the couples did everything together, even planning their children’s births months apart. But on December 16, 2000, their world turned upside down when Mike vanished during a duck hunting trip on Lake Seminole. With no body found, many believed he had drowned or was eaten by alligators.”
But then the Winchesters divorced, and Brian Winchester then married Denise Williams. That’s when Kathy Winchester’s suspicions led her to uncover “a dark web of lies, betrayal, and murder behind her friend’s disappearance.”
“Mr. & Mrs. Murder” is produced by Plum Pictures and ABC News Studios for Hulu. Michael Beach Nichols is director and executive producer. Stuart Cabb and Tom Pearson are executive producers for Plum Pictures. Beth Hoppe is executive producer, and Sloan serves as senior executive producer for ABC News Studios.
