Inter’s New Boss: Chivu’s Back, and He’s Got Big Shoes to Fill

Okay, so this is a big deal. Inter Milan, the team that just lost a heartbreaker in the Champions League final, has a new manager, and it’s none other than Cristian Chivu, their former defensive rock.

Remember that guy? The Romanian who was basically a brick wall for Inter for seven years, winning three league titles? Well, he’s back, but this time, he’s not stopping shots, he’s calling the plays.

Chivu just finished up a short stint with Parma, leading them to safety in Serie A. It was his first senior coaching gig, but he clearly made an impression. He’s now stepping into some pretty big shoes, replacing Simone Inzaghi, who left for Saudi Arabia after the Champions League loss.

Inter seems really excited about this. They’re calling Chivu a “man of the club,” someone who has “gone through experiences and challenges” that make him “inextricably bound” to the team. They’ve even signed him up through 2027, so they’re clearly putting their faith in him.

His first test? The Club World Cup, starting with a match against Monterrey on June 17th. This is going to be intense, and it’s going to be interesting to see how Chivu handles the pressure.
